Senior Puppy Portraits with Buck

When my friend reached out to ask if I could photograph his girlfriend’s dog, Buck, before he passed, my heart immediately went out to them. Losing a pet is one of the hardest things we go through, and I knew how important it would be to capture these moments for them. This is exactly why I love photography, it has the power to preserve memories that can be held close when the grief feels heavy.

Because of Buck’s health, I wanted to make the experience as easy and comfortable as possible. They gave me their home address, and I searched for a nearby park that would be close and simple for them to get to. It turned out to be the perfect little spot!

I loved meeting Buck, he was so sweet, calm, and absolutely in love with Michael and Audrey. You could just feel the bond between them. I asked Audrey to bring a blanket, and when I asked if Buck had a favorite way to cuddle, her whole face lit up. She laid down beside him, wrapped her arms around him, and he melted right into her. Audrey told me that every morning he would snuggle with her just like that, and he would stay there for hours if she let him.

Photographing those moments, Buck resting happily in his favorite position with his favorite person, felt so meaningful. These are the images that carry love forward, even after our pets leave us.

Pets are such an important part of our lives. They’re family. Being trusted to capture these memories for Audrey and Michael was such an honor, and I’ll never forget how sweet Buck was that day!
